One Easy Step to Take Care of Your Gums

GUM CARE

Taking care of our teeth alone is not sufficient to maintain good oral hygiene. The gum surrounding the teeth should also be kept clean to avoid dental problems. Oral hygiene is maintained by regular brushing, flossing, by using mouth washes etc.

FLOSSING:

The plaque which forms between the teeth and along the gum line is not accessible or reachable to the tooth brush and thus remains untouched. Hence, in such cases flossing is mandatory to remove the food particle stuck in between the teeth.

DOES FLOSSING CAUSE GUM BLEEDING:

A healthy gum is unlikely to bleed frequently on flossing. An infected gum (due to accumulation of plaque and tartar) which is RED, SPONGY AND SWOLLEN bleeds easily on flossing. When the flosser is pushed down deep in to the gum might injure the gum and it may bleed.

However when you first start flossing, your gum may be tender and bleed a little as to start to get rid if any plaque build-up. Carry on flossing your teeth  and the bleeding should stop as your gum becomes healthier. As an alternate option you can use INTERDENTAL BRUSH to remove the food particles which gets stuck between the teeth.

With the current developments, it is also possible to floss using a water flosser or air flosser to reduce the risk of bleeding gums. Water Flossers are safer and there are a range of advantages it holds in comparison to regular flossing.

If you notice regular bleeding on flossing consult your dentist, because your flossing technique may be wrong or your gums are not healthy. Our Periodontal Experts can help you with your Oral Care and provide complete protection to your Gums.
